D.R. Laird

Douglas was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1946. He was interested in art at a very early age and after leaving school, apprenticed at an advertising agency/art studio in his hometown. It was at that time he attended the Edinburgh College of Art for a three-year period. At the college he studied extensively on life drawing and draped life.

For many years Douglas traveled throughout North America and Europe. His travels have strongly influenced his subject matter used in his paintings. Douglas enjoys working and feels comfortable in all mediums and his subjects include landscape, marine, nostalgia, still life, western, wildlife, children and everyday activities.

Douglas immigrated to Canada in 1965, and currently resides with his wife and daughter in Oakville, Ontario.
